Matty’s Minute: A Rainy Day Update

Fog Lifting after a welcomed soak of rain late last night/early this morning at Old Greenwood.

I was woken up last night by my dog's loud breathing in my face. A typical occurrence, however, this time was different as several flashes of lightning, followed by large booming thunder got her attention. I slept horribly, filled with anxiety that these dry lightning strikes would start a new fire here in our town.

I was pleased to wake up this morning, look outside and see everything feel more like a normal day in Seattle. The Earth was wet, the fog was rising and the fresh smell of rain in my nose.

While we are still a long way away from getting out of "fire season," this morning's damp surprise and cooler temperatures have me optimistic for a nice Autumn with clear air quality and low fire danger.

The Caldor Fire is slowing now with a historical effort by firefighters with now a 53% containment. Great headway but far from over, this fire has burned now over 200,000 acres in the South Lake Tahoe region.

While allowing residents to return to their homes, local officials are still encouraging people NOT to visit the area until they continue to gain more control on the fire, as several areas including Myers are still on evacuation orders.

The Dixie Fire to our north has burned now more than 950,000 acres and is still just 59% contained.

9/10/21: The Dixie Fire: 53% contained, 218,459 acres burned…

Shifting gears, I hope that everyone had an enjoyable long weekend and are happy to be back into the hustle of making lunches and school schedules. While I believe that we will see a slight pause in transactional data with the recent poor air quality and threat of fires, historically Q4 is our busiest time of year, as prospective buyers, encouraged by several memorable vacations to the area, decide to make a purchasing decision.

These buyers have been watching the market closely all summer, have their ducks in a row, and are waiting for the perfect property to hit the market.

In many cases, as planning is happening for this winter holiday season, a shortage of available rental inventory may also push would be renters to consider a purchasing decision instead.

Here's a list of available listings in our Core Communities and please contact me for more information and/or to schedule a time to tour in the upcoming weeks.
